A word from Joe Shields, the captain of the Fraser Wolverines Men’s Hockey Team, on why they chose to come from all the way from Ann Arbor to support the Susan Mast ALS Foundation:

“I stumbled across a Susan Mast post when scrolling Facebook and the letters “ALS” stood out to me because it reminded me of a Toys for Tots game we hosted previously where it was also turned into a game for ALS awareness and fundraiser for Scott Matzka, the former University of Michigan hockey player, who has since passed away from ALS. It’s such a terrible disease, so I thought this could be a great way to help people and family members once again that are dealing with this disease. I immediately looked up the Susan Mast website and began reading about what great things this organization does. I called and offered to help with a hockey game fundraiser!”

Lindsey Denharder, Team Kalamazoo’s captain, said,

“We decided to put a team together to participate in the ALS fundraiser hockey game because we believe in the power of sports to bring people together for a greater cause. ALS is a devastating disease that affects thousands of individuals and their families. By participating in this fundraiser, we hope to raise awareness and contribute to efforts that provide essential respite care for families facing this difficult journey. More importantly, we want to show our support for those battling ALS and let them know they are not alone.”
